6. Lay-off and Short Time Working
What is a Zero Hours Contract? Zero hours contracts is not a legal term and in most cases is prohibited under the Employment Miscellaneous (Provisions) Act 2018. It is used to describe a certain type of agreement between where the employer may ask an individual to perform work, but there is no set minimum number of hours.
The terms of the contract or agreement will provide what pay the individual will get if he or she does work and will deal with the circumstances in which work may be offered (and, possibly, turned down).
